TRANSPORTATION:
Roads:
Route 278(3 lanes from exit 8 to Hilton Head); Route 170(3 lands from Parris Island Gateway to Route 46 circle); Route 46(2
lanes from the circle to Route 17); Route 21(2 lanes from St. Helena to Route 17); Route 462(2 lanes from 170 to 321); Route
17(3 lanes in areas from Point South to Charleston); Route I 95(3 lanes from Georgia to North Carolina); Route 321(3 lanes
from Columbia to Hardeeville)
Bridges:
HHI bridges will be completed, possible new bridge to St Helena, possible bridge to Daufuskie Island.
Airports:
Hilton Head (maximum capacity), Beaufort Executive (home to the flying cars), Savannah-Hilton Head
International(becomes a true international airport with direct flights to the major cities in Europe).
Rail:
CSX, Norfolk Southern, Amtrak(all expand service to this area with Amtrak having a station at exit 8).
Bus:
Palmetto Breeze(complete bus service from Hilton Head to all municipalities and park and rides on I95).
Ferry:
A complete ferry system that serves Daufuskie, Savannah, Hilton Head, Tybee, Beaufort, Bluffton and Port Royal with high-
speed ferries.
Ports:
Savannah, Jasper Ocean Terminal, Port Royal Port, with Jasper and Port Royal have large and small cruise ships.

Beaufort County Parks and Recreation completes the $100 million dollar upgrades, creates an arena for sports

All roads have a portion of the road set aside for walkers, bikers and golf carts.
Bluffton continues to expand their offerings.

The housing need and stock of homes continues to grow. Zoning is changed to allow for more multi-use
developments, new building techniques will use materials that are less costly and more resistant to hurricanes
and are more energy efficient.

golf carts.
Daycare facilities are created throughout the county to address the growing needs for this service.

Tourism continues to grow with new markets for Cruise ship debarking for day tours to the various attractions.
The ferry system increases tourism between Savannah and municipalities in SC.
The rich culture of the Gullah and stories of the settlers that created Sant Elena and those who fought in the
Revolutionary, Civil, WWI and WWII all make this a special place for people to enjoy the rich heritage that this
area offers.
Walking trails and interconnected bike-path systems allow walkers, bikers and golf carts to access the sites.

Naval Hospital
MCAS continues to be the home base for the latest military aircraft, including the F-35 and beyond.
Parris Island continues to be the training center for marines and expands to serve the both males and females.
Naval Hospital is relocated, and the existing site becomes a corporate headquarters.

In the next few years, the Beaufort County Sheriff’s department will be moved to the Cooler tract. The entire
operations will be centrally located along with other public safety operations, such as EMS, EOC and a new fire
station. The site will also house a new administration building since most of the population will be located south
of the broad.
Municipal police departments will continue to expand as the population increases in those municipalities.
A 4-county center (Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton, Jasper) will be created to handle those who are incarcerated.
A new juvenile detention center may be created to handle juveniles and be located in Beaufort City.

Beaufort will face significant challenges to handle waste and recycling. Material Recovery Facilities (MRF’s) will
need to be constructed. A new landfill will have to be developed as Hickory Hill reaches maximum capacity.

BJWSA will have to expand to keep up with the demand for water and sewer. The electric companies will have to
expand the grid to keep up with household demands and electric vehicle charging stations become more prevalent.
Wireless towers will need to be constructed as the demand for Wi-Fi increases. Cable will move away from wire in
the ground to wireless and streaming.

The lynch pin of the quality of life is in the hands of these environmentalists. If they don’t help us to shape the
future the future will shape our quality of life. The delicate balance of new people coming to our area must be in
harmony with how we manage growth, where growth is allowed and how our environment is protected.
The sea level rise will have to be addressed.
