William G. Cather of Euless is breathing a sigh of relief knowing that his
recent retirement can withstand the slings and arrows of a tough economy,
thanks to the $1 million prize he won playing Mega Millions
®
.
Cather was at Albertson’s #4270 at 4000 Glade Road in Colleyville, and had $10
left after grocery shopping. He bought ve Mega Millions Quick Picks and added
the Megaplier feature. One of his tickets matched ve of the six numbers drawn,
minus the Mega Ball, in the July 8 drawing.
Like everyone else who wins a major prize, Cather and his
spouse were incredulous.
“I double-checked my ticket three times on the Texas Lottery
Web site, and then made my wife look at it, too,” he said.
“Even then, we couldn’t believe what we were seeing.”
Having the ticket double-checked by a retailer made
believers out of Mr. and Mrs. Cather.
“The rst thing my wife said was, ‘We’re
going to invest this,’” he said. Cather says
that ever since he retired a few years ago, he
and his wife have been on a xed income,
which has curtailed some of his previous
expenditures. “This has certainly amplied
my comfort zone in retirement.”
On July 2, Wiffe Enterprises, L.L.C.,\representatives Chhavy Sovann Khourn
and Tasha Nicole Leon traveled more than 200 miles from Center to claim the
rst top prize in the Texas Lottery scratch-off, Super Set For Life—$500,000
annually for 15 years, not to exceed $7,500,000.
Their adventure began late one night in April when Khourn dreamed about the
new game her store had recently received. “I dreamed I had the urge to scratch
the Super Set For Life tickets,” she explained. “In my dream, I couldn’t stop
scratching them.”
Khourn runs Johnny’s Liquor, located at 513 Cora Street in Center, and she
prides herself on maintaining a fun, easy-going atmosphere in the shop.
The day after her strange dream, Khourn decided to split one of the Super
Set For Life tickets with a customer. She
brought out her lucky coin, and the two
took turns revealing numbers. When
Khourn saw the word “LIFE” printed
on the ticket, she started doing her
“lottery dance.”
According to Leon, “You have to
be careful around her when she
wins. She could knock you over
if she gets $100.”
Khourn said, “The one thing I
want people to know is that
it’s a blessing, and I’m very
thankful.”
