Installing CrashplanPROe on Linux OS
(Tested with openSUSE and Ubuntu)
1. Viterbi IT will provide you with the download link to the Crashplan installation files.
You may also submit a service request to the Viterbi Service Desk by logging into
https://myviterbi.usc.edu/ or email [email protected].
2. Navigate to the Downloads folder and un-compress the file:
~/Downloads> tar xzvf VSOECrashPlanPROe_Linux.tgz
3. Change to the newly created Install Directory:
cd ~/Downloads/CrashPlan-install
4. Install CrashPlan:
sudo ./install.sh

5. Press Y if prompted to Install Java JRE
6. Accept and advance through the EULA by using the Spacebar.
7. Accept the default installation locations and init.d Daemon

8. Press enter to complete the installation:
9. Start the CrashPlan Desktop GUI Interface:
~/Downloads/CrashPlanPROe-install> y/CrashPlanDesktop

10. Select Existing Account > Put in your USC Username and Password:

11. Press the Sign In Button:

12. The backup process will start automatically and will run in the background. You may
close the window. The first backup can take several hours to a day depending on data
size and internet connections speed.
