Marriage Licenses
The County Clerk’s office will provide written information concerning
transmission and prevention of venereal diseases and HIV infection, as
individuals are not required to receive blood testing or HIV counselling.
Michigan residents must apply in person for the license in the county in
which one of the applicant’s lives, but can be married anywhere within the
state. The application fee is $20 for a Michigan resident. There is a three
day waiting period after the application is made and the license must be
used within 33 days of the application date. You may access the marriage

Persons 16 or 17 years of age must appear with their parent or legal
guardian to execute a consent form. Proof of age must be submitted,
driver’s license must be presented, and parental identification may also be
required. An additional fee of $50.00 will be charged for a three day
waiting period waiver.
Out-of-state individuals applying for a Michigan marriage license must
apply for the license in the county in which the marriage will take place and
one of the applicant’s must appear in person to apply. The out-of-state
application fee is $30.00.

Acquiring Birth, Death and Marriage Records
Ogemaw County keeps records of birth and deaths that occurred in Ogemaw
County. It also maintains the marriage license record for individuals that
applied in Ogemaw County. Most records are available to anyone and this
applies to death, marriage, or divorce records. Michigan birth records less than
100 years old are restricted to certain individuals.

BIRTH RECORDS
Birth records are NOT public records and can only be obtained by the following
persons:
The individual named on the record
The parents of the individual named on the record
Legal guardian/legal representative (provide court order)
An heir of the person named on the record
If you were adopted, your original Michigan birth record was sealed by a
court. In this case, you can only obtain a copy of your birth certificate
from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services. It will
indicate your adopted name and adoptive parent’s names. You may

An individual may apply in person or via mail. Please use the Vital Certificate
Request Form when requesting a record. The first certified copy is $10.00 and
each additional copy is $5.00 when ordered at the same time. All copies issued by
the Ogemaw County Clerk’s office are certified and have a raised seal. Payment
must be included with the request for copies along with a copy of your driver’s
license or photo identification. Please make the check payable to County of

DEATH RECORDS
The Ogemaw County Clerk’s office has death certificates for individuals who died
in Ogemaw County. Death certificates are public records and may be viewed by
anyone. You will need to provide the name and date of death for the individual
record.
Death records may be ordered in person or via mail. The fee for the first certified
copy is $10.00 and $5.00 for each additional certified copy at the time the first
copy is requested. You may download a request form and mail the form to:

applied for their license in Ogemaw County. Marriage licenses are public record
