This guide is intended as a sample course schedule to help direct student progression. Students must meet regularly with their academic advisor to discuss specific course
selections, remaining requirements, and degree options. Shaded courses are required Nursing prerequisite courses necessary for admission to the BSN professional program.
Non-shaded courses are required foundation and general education courses necessary to graduate. Pre-Nursing students (semesters 1-4) must apply for competitive
admission into the BSN professional program (remaining 4 semesters). This BSN program is only at the Tucson campus.

UNIVERSITY DEGREE REQUIREMENTS (UNITS)
Total Units Required: 120 units; 42 units must be upper division (300-499)
Minimum GPA: Minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA; Minimum 2.0 major GPA

College Algebra: MATH 112; or higher-level mathematics course

An approved statistics course: MATH 163, MATH 263, SBS/SOC 200, or ISTA 116. Other courses may meet the statistics
requirement for Nursing but do not meet the Moderate Math Strand.

Second language proficiency requires completion of second semester level (or higher) coursework (typically 102 or higher) or a
Proficiency Exam. Proficiency Exams include CLEP, AP, IB or College of Humanities Language Proficiency Exam.

DECLARING PRE-PROFESSIONAL NURSING AND COMPLEMENTARY MAJORS
The College of Nursing requires all students meet certain eligibility requirements to declare the Pre-Professional major. Please review the criteria
online at www.nursing.arizona.edu/bsn-admissions and contact an Academic Advisor at con-[email protected] if you have questions.
Students unable to declare the Pre-Professional Nursing major at this time are encouraged to identify and declare a complementary major, and
then declare the major after completing a semester or more of coursework at or above the minimum GPA for declaration of the major. GPA
requirements to change major are also online at www.nursing.arizona.edu/bsn-admissions. Common complementary majors include: Public
Health, Nutrition, Family Studies and Human Development, Physiology, Psychology, or Care, Health and Society.
BSN PROFESSIONAL PROGRAM APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
BSN Professional Program Admission Requirements: (All requirements and deadlines are subject to change. See Nursing website for additional details.)
Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0, as well as minimum prerequisite GPA of 3.0. Grades of C or better in all prerequisite courses
Minimum score of 75 on HESI A2 exam (Math, Reading Comprehension, Vocabulary, and Biology)
Submit an application with NursingCAS.
Non-current UA students that are admitted to the program must also submit a UA transfer student application by the deadline outlined in
their admissions packet. UA admissions information is available via The University of Arizona’s Office of Admissions (admissions.arizona.edu)
Nursing College admission is based on a holistic review of criteria, including:
Prerequisite GPA
(Highest grade for each
prerequisite course)
Prerequisite GPA of a minimum 3.0 GPA for all prerequisite courses, with a minimum grade of ‘C’ or better in
each required course. If a prerequisite course is repeated, the highest grade earned will be utilized in the
calculation.
Cumulative GPA
(All courses at all regionally
accredited colleges ever)
Cumulative GPA of a minimum 3.0 GPA for all post-secondary coursework ever taken. Grade replacement rules
at the institution where the course is taken will be honored for GPA calculations. Unless grade replacement
occurs, all attempts of all courses will be included, reflecting all schools ever attended.
Optional Experience
Optional experiences that may be included to increase application strength include: healthcare experience,
volunteerism, transferable non-healthcare employment, and leadership experiences.
HESI Admissions Assessment
Students must take the HESI Admissions Assessment with a 75% minimum score based on a single attempt.

Interview
A secondary interview is required as the second and final step in the admissions process. Interview offer is
determined by ranking based on the above metrics.
Application Deadlines for BSN Professional Program
Students interested in the BSN must apply for admission through Nursing CAS by the relevant deadlines at 11:59pm EST (see below).
February 1 for admission to the upcoming Fall semester (may have 2 prerequisite courses in progress at time of application)
September 1 for admission to the upcoming Spring semester (may have 2 prerequisite courses in progress at time of application)
If enrolled at the time of application and given admissions offer, applicants must maintain their 3.0 cumulative and prerequisite GPA
minimum after completion of any in-progress coursework, as well as a grade of ‘C’ or better in any in-progress prerequisite courses.
