DURASTAIN® OUTDOOR FURNITURE can be applied using a 3/8” or ½” nap roller or a synthetic paint brush.
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
WHERE TO USE
FOR EXTERIOR, ABOVE GROUND USE ONLY.
WOOD TYPES: Use on all species of Pine, Fir, Hemfir, Cypress, Cedar, Redwood, Poplar, Hickory, and other North
American hardwoods.
PROJECTS: Use to beautify and protect wood furniture, picnic tables, playsets, and more.
COVERAGE: Approximately 80 square feet per gallon (volume after tinting). Two coats are recommended. Actual
coverage will vary depending on wood age and species, and surface porosity.
APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS
SURFACE PREPARATION: The preparation process outlined below should be followed to achieve optimum performance
of this product. Long-term adhesion and durability can be impaired by an unsound or poorly prepared surface.
REGARDLESS OF AGE OR SURFACE CONDITION, FAILURE TO FOLLOW THESE PREPARATION METHODS MAY RESULT IN
POOR ADHESION AND POSSIBLE COATING FAILURE. NEW AND SEALED WOOD NEEDS TO WEATHER AT LEAST SIX MONTHS
BEFORE APPLICATION.
Step 1: Prepare the surface with Wolman
DeckStrip
®
, then use DeckBrite or Deck & Fence Brightener based on your wood condition
described below. After preparation, conduct Splash Test (see Step 2) on bare wood to confirm water absorption before applying this product.
Previously Coated, Weathered Wood: 1) For best results, previous coatings such as paints, solid color and semi-transparent stains in a
weathered state should be stripped to create a bare, sound surface for maximum coating adhesion and durability. To remove oil, alkyd or latex,
water base stains, use Wolman
DeckStrip
®
Stain & Finish Remover; for 100% acrylic solid or semi-solid stains, use DeckStrip
®
-ASR Acrylic
Stain Remover. 2) For previous coatings in a sound condition, and for weathered transparent finishes, toners and clear sealers, thoroughly
clean with Wolman
TM
DeckBrite
TM
powder concentrate or Deck & Fence Brightener liquid concentrate to remove chalky paint residue,
embedded dirt, mildew and other contaminants, residual coating material and water repellency. According to label guidelines, select the
appropriate cleaning product for your wood type, use according to directions and rinse with a power washer for best results. When dry, scrape
off and sand any remaining loose flaking or peeling coating using 50 or 60 grit sandpaper.
Uncoated, Weathered Wood: Before staining, bare, weathered wood must be thoroughly cleaned to remove ground-in dirt, mildew, mold and
algae stains, gray, UV-damaged wood fibers and any other surface contaminants. According to label guidelines, select the appropriate product
for your particular wood type, either Wolman
TM
DeckBrite
TM
powder concentrate or Deck & Fence Brightener liquid concentrate. Follow usage
directions on label, let dry, then conduct Splash Test (see Step 2).
Uncoated, New Wood: It is important to open wood pores and remove any surface barrier which would prevent the proper penetration or
adhesion of a new coating. If pressure-treated lumber, excess surface wax or excessive internal moisture content may be present. If new
Cedar or Redwood, “mill glaze” on the surface is a common condition. Eliminate these barriers by using either Wolman
DeckBrite
powder
concentrate or Deck & Fence Brightener liquid concentrate. According to label guidelines, select the appropriate product for your particular
wood type, then follow usage directions on label, let dry, and conduct Splash Test (see Step 2).
Step 2: Perform a Splash Test: To conduct a Splash Test, sprinkle several handfuls of water on a few distinct areas of the bare wood surface.
If the water absorbs rapidly, the surface is ready to be coated. If the water beads, puddles or is not absorbed, an internal or external barrier
exists, and must be eliminated before staining can begin.
Houses painted before 1978 may contain lead. WARNING! If you scrape, sand, or remove old paint, you may release lead dust. LEAD IS TOXIC.
EXPOSURE TO LEAD DUST CAN CAUSE SERIOUS ILLNESS, SUCH AS BRAIN DAMAGE, ESPECIALLY IN CHILDREN. PREGNANT WOMEN
SHOULD ALSO AVOID EXPOSURE. Wear a NIOSH approved respirator to control lead exposure. Clean up carefully with a HEPA vacuum and a

TINTING: DuraStain
®
Outdoor Furniture should be tinted before use with compatible universal colorants.
BEFORE YOU START COATING: Prior to project start date, perform a trial brush-out in several inconspicuous areas to ensure the desired color
and look is achieved. (Color appearance will vary depending wood species, age and surface porosity). Secure raised nail heads and remove
loose splinters. Fill cracks with an acrylic, non-silicone filler. Allow to dry. This product will not repair existing wood damage such as cracking,
checking, splintering or splitting. Make sure entire wood surface is completely dry and free of dust, dirt and debris. Cover all surrounding areas
not intended to be coated. Intermix multiple gallons of the same product in a separate container to ensure a uniform color. Mix thoroughly
before and occasionally during use. Do not dilute or mix this product with any other product.
PRECAUTIONS & TEMPERATURE SAFEGUARDS:
DO NOT APPLY IF RAIN IS EXPECTED WITHIN 24 HOURS OF APPLICATION. Apply when surface and air temperature is between 50º and 90º F
and will remain between 50º and 90º F for at least 2 hours after application.
APPLICATION
TWO LIBERAL COATS OF WOLMAN
DURASTAIN

OUTDOOR FURNTITURE ARE REQUIRED.
STEP 1: Thoroughly stir material before and during project. When using more than one container, combine all containers to ensure color
consistency.
STEP 2: Using either a 3/8” or ½” nap roller or a synthetic paint brush, saturate and apply generously in a consistent pattern. Work to a wet
edge at all times. Avoid rolling back into coated areas where drying has begun.
STEP 3: If needed, use a putty knife or other straight edge to remove excess coating between boards.
STEP 4: Allow first coat to dry 4-6 hours. Extend drying time if the surface is tacky or soft. Drying times may vary depending on temperature and humidity.
STEP 5: Apply second coat using the same method as in STEP 2 and STEP 3.
STEP 6: Allow second coat to dry 24 hours before light use and 3-5 days for heavy use. Full cure to a hard finish will take approximately 3-4 weeks.
Clean up drips or spatters with water IMMEDIATELY, as dried coating is very difficult to remove.
CLEAN UP: Use mild soap and water as soon as possible.
STORAGE: KEEP FROM FREEZING. Close container when not in use. Dispose of empty cans or unused portion in accordance with local, state
and federal regulations.
